Netball success for Studley

Air Cadets from the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing recently competed in netball at Stockland Green Leisure Centre, Erdington, in an effort to take the Wing Trophy.

A team from 480 (Studley) Squadron participated in the competition. The team consisted largely of girls who had joined the Air Training Corps, a national youth organisation, within the last year and had only recently started competing together as a team. That said, three of the team had recently received their Wing Blues having played for the Wing.

The first game, against an experienced team from 492 (Solihull) Squadron, led to a successful 5 - 3 win, taking the Studley team through to the Quarter Finals. The team was then pitted against 165 (Castle Bromwich) Squadron. The Studley Team fought a hard game, but victory was not to be with the final score of 8 - 5 to 165 Squadron.

Pilot Officer Mark Hulme, Officer in Charge of 480 Squadron, commented "the team should be very proud of themselves. They haven't been together long and many of the Cadets are younger members of the Squadron. They played two excellent games and really worked together". Cadet Amelia Caffrey said "the whole team really enjoyed the competition. We may not have won but we worked hard and are pleased at getting through to the Quarter Finals".

Studley Squadron parades every Monday and Thursday from 7.15pm to 9.30pm. We are open to new recruits from the age of 13 to 17. If you require further information about joining the Squadron, please contact us on 01527 850 393.
