Annual Dining In Dinner and Awards

Air Cadets and Staff from 480 (Studley) Squadron attended their annual dinner and awards evening, having dressed up in smart eveningwear, on Saturday 6th February 2010. To celebrate the Squadron’s success in 2009, they had a three course meal, recreating the style, at Studley Village Hall, of an RAF Mess Dinner. All the traditions were observed, including saying Grace, Passing of the Port and the Loyal Toast.

Awards were also given out after the meal. Corporal Allum won ‘Best Junior Non-Commissioned Officer’ and Acksea Flight won ‘Best Flight’. The two Flights competed all year, with only a few points between them. Indeed, the competition came down to the results of the last Inspection!

Further Awards were also presented, including the ‘White Stick’ Award, which was given to the Bronze D of E groups for their expedition in October 2009 and ‘Best Cadet Award’, given to Cadet Allely for her consistent dedication to the Air Training Corps. Cadet Tarrant won the ‘Best Recruit’ award and the ‘Medlicott cup’ was awarded to Cadet Bennett for taking every opportunity available with enthusiasm. Cadet Orme was given the ‘IFIT’ award for her constant misfortune; particularly on the D of E Expedition and Civilian Instructor and former Cadet Mike Long picked up the ‘Light of Experience’ award (for learning a lesson the hard way!) Finally, Cadet Allum picked up the ‘Austin Trophy’ for his excellent academic results – receiving a credit in his ‘Leading Cadet’ exam.
