Tim joined the Air Training Corps at 492 (Solihull) Squadron in 1977 as a 13 year old, lying about his age in order to be allowed in uniform (Battledress!) for their Banner Presentation Parade. Before leaving the ATC at the age of 21, he had reached the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer and had completed his Staff Cadet, RAF Marksman and all three Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award qualifications.

Following his time at 492, Tim spent a short time in the RAF Regiment and 6 years in the Territorial Army before being “coerced” into rejoining 492 as a uniformed member of staff. In 2003, Tim moved to Scotland and paraded at 1296 (Turriff) and 1295 (Peterhead) Squadrons. 3 years later Tim headed back home and to 492, winning several Wing and a Regional Drill Competitions in the following years.

It was time for a change in 2009 and retirement was seriously considered. However, after some persuasion and cajoling from some old friends, Wing Staff and a very understanding partner, he made the decisions to transfer to 480 (Studley) Squadron and has not regretted it since!

Despite being an Air Cadet, Tim’s passion has always been more towards the Drill, Fieldcraft and Shooting activities, rather than the “flying side” of the ATC.  Tim is a qualified Drill Instructor and Range Safety Supervisor.

In addition to his Sqn duties, Tim is the Team Warrant Officer (Team WO) and Quartermaster (QM) for the Wing Shooting and Fieldcraft Training Team.
