Mark joined the ATC as a member of 1982 (Huyton) Sqn in Merseyside Wing before transferring to 2028 (Southam) Sqn when his family relocated to Warwickshire.

Whilst at 2028 Sqn he attended various camps and courses in the UK and overseas, attending one of the 1997 Annual Camps to RAF Laarbruch in Germany. He completed his Basic Glider Training (BGT), participated in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and developed his interest in shooting and marksmanship training. Mark was promoted through the ranks until he was appointed as a Cadet Warrant Officer in January 2000. The highlights of Mark’s time as a cadet were acting as a Staff Cadet at Beckingham Ranges during the Air Cadet 2000 Millennium Camp, as a member of the SWAT Team at Fairford during RIAT 2002 and completing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

In November 2002 Mark stood down as a cadet in order to complete his final year of university before rejoining 2028 Sqn as a Civilian Instructor in 2003. During this time he completed his First Aid, Basic Expedition Leaders Award, Safety Supervisor, Coaching and Weapons Instructor Courses.

In February 2004 Mark was appointed an Adult Sergeant and transferred to 485 (Harbourne & Quinton) Sqn, having completed his teacher training year and settling with his fiancé in Birmingham. During the next four years he attended various Coaching and Range Management Courses and was a founder member of the Wing Shooting and Fieldcraft Training Team having completed his Long Range RCO and NRA Target Rifle Coaching Courses.

Commissioned into the RAF Volunteer Reserve (Training) Branch in December 2007, Mark transferred to 480 (Studley) Sqn as Sqn Adjutant. Having completed his Officers Initial and Officers Senior Courses at RAFC Cranwell, he was appointed Officer Commanding 480 Sqn in June 2008.

In addition to his Sqn duties, Mark is the Deputy Wing Shooting Officer for Warwickshire and Birmingham Wg. He is responsible for the planning and coordination of various training activities, including all of the Wgs Long Range Shooting and Initial Weapon Trg weekends, as well as acting as a support contact to other Sqns regarding all shooting matters.

Mark is a Secondary Science teacher a local high school. He is married to his very understanding wife, Emma, who is also a Civilian Instructor at 480 Sqn.
