CI Edward Maher

Ed joined the ATC as a member of 479 (Rubery) Squadron in Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing in April 2001.

Whilst at 479 Sqn, Ed rose to the rank of Corporal and achieved the classification of Staff Cadet in two years. He attended several UK camps at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Valley as well as numerous camps as Nesscliff. The “green” activities of shooting and fieldcraft were always of more interest. The highlight of his career as a Cadet was an Overseas Camp to Gibraltar.

In July 2004 Ed stood down from the ATC due to commitments of work and college. This was with much regret and felt like a premature end.

In November 2011 unable to stay away Ed returned to 479's sister Sqn 480 (Studley) as a Civilian Instructor.

Ed is currently in the process of applying to become an Adult Sergeant at 480 Sqn. His current duties at the squadron are the Admin Assistant and he teaches piston propulsion to the cadets.

Ed is a MOT tester and mechanic for cars and light commercial vehicles at a garage in north Worcestershire. If he has one piece of advice for the cadets it’s to never give up even if you have to do it the hard way!
